The original high value Machin security definitives are no longer available at most Post Offices so we have added them to our shop under 2009 Definitives (and also as 'Recent Additions'). We have some cylinder blocks and date blocks.
As those were added we took the opportunity to list today the second retail booklet for HM The Queen's 90th birthday. We cannot post those until the day of issue, 9 June.
Winford and Winsford UDCs
-
Winford is seven miles south-east of Bristol. Here is an example of its
double-arc UDC from June 1851.
Winford is not to be confused with Winsford, four...
I tried to purchase twenty 50p Machins today and was told at both sub post offices I tried that they no longer stock that denomination.
ReplyDeleteThe post-mistress at the first one I tried even told me she had been instructed by the PO to return leftover stock of that denomination.
Most of the offices I visited on my bi-monthly trek to see what Machins and Booklets, 5 offices had returned their stock of 50p stamps but 2 were using up their stocks. 2 Offices (1 WHSmiths run office) said that the £1 stamps have also been withdrawn, but now have the £3 &£5 stamps, which they didn’t have previously!
DeletePerhaps that's why we've not seen an M16L date code - in fact the last (and only dated one) was M12L.
ReplyDeleteThe only printing in Tallents House list was 18/09/12 - AND they still have the previous light grey 50p, printed 07/08/09.
DeleteThere was of course the 50p from the Merchant Navy Prestige stamp book with M13L printed by Enschedé and the 50p from the Waterloo Prestige stamp book with M15L printed by Cartor.
DeleteTrue, but for general availability at POs, there hasn't been another printing of the counter sheet stamp as far as we know.
