We are now able to show preliminary images of the panes in the Diamond Jubilee Prestige Stamp Book.
It is clear from the perforations that these are studio mock-ups and we are not sure in which order they will appear. The Machin stamp will almost certainly have a new security code in the iridescent overprint. As far as we know, the Wilding stamp will not have any security overprint. We don't know whether and of the stamps are gummed or self-adhesive.
As you will be able to work out, the total face value is £11.84. We understand that the selling price will be £12.77.

Why is Nelson Mandela featured in one of the panes?
ReplyDeleteWhere is Prince Philip??
If you look at previous 'royal' issues you will see that Prince Philip appears on the 'wedding anniversary' issues (rightly), but is absent on those marking the jubilees of the accession - go back to the 1972, 1977, 2002, 2007 issues and take a look.
DeleteThe reference to Prince Philip was an aside, the question was real aim was to query the presence of Nelson Mandela on a pane of stamps celebrating the Queens Jubilee. Why is he there?
DeleteWhy not? The two leaders are good friends, perhaps due to their closeness in age, it is a good photograph, and is also a reminder that the Queen is also the head of the Commonwealth.
DeleteDoes someone know why and how the Royal Mail calculates that difference between the total face values and the price of a prestige booklet? Call me old school, but I think that stamps should be sold at their face value (which is why I don't like those "commemorative sheets").
ReplyDeleteYes, Royal Mail have explained that they have to cover the cost of the non-stamp part of the product (as they have always done on the presentation pack).
DeleteThe set of 8 commemorative stamps will be available in all POs at their face value. If you also require the Wilding and (probably unique) Machins as singles then you will have to pay dealer prices if you don't want to pay Royal Mail's over-cost price for the whole book. The mark-up on the book is 93p: if you want the two single 1st class stamps (@60p each) from most dealers they will cost at least £1 each, plus postage. I'll leave you to do the maths.
