As recently as 26 July we reported that our Page View total had just passed 400,000.
Now, in the early hours of 25 September your visits pushed the total past a half-million page views!! Obviously the Gold Medals had a lot to do with that, and so thanks to Royal Mail for providing all the extra news in such a timely fashion which enabled us to keep our readers updated.
And thanks to all our readers for their contributions. There will be a prize for the 1,000,000 reader!
We're having another break next week, so no blogposts from the sub unless something really important happens.
Congratulations, well deserved. This is an invaluable blog for GB collectors.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations. My first port of call for stamp info :) The gold medal stamps I have used for letters recently have been well received overseas.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your break, perhaps you could send friends/family postcards if you are going somewhere! Speaking of postcards, for Postcrossing I received one from Malaysia with a glow-in-the-dark stamp (haven't checked to see if it actually glows...). Have RM ever produced one?
I don't recall any that glowed in the dark after exposure to normal light, unless one of the Nobel Prize set was like that - all sorts of innovations there.
DeleteHalf a million! That's fantastic! Well done and keep up the good work. Absolutely love it!
ReplyDeleteI'm a big fan of your site ever since I found it and I tell any GB-phile stamp dealers and collectors in the United States, where as an expatriate Scot I am now living, about it when they are looking for the latest in GB new-issue news. I agree with the other commenters, who reckon your site is the best and most up-to-date source of such news. Sincere congratulations on your 500,000th page view and on achieving 100,000 page views in just the past two months; and also on the general excellence of your website, which is always interesting and exceptionally well illustrated.
ReplyDeleteAs a professional journalist and experienced web poster,(my part-time "hobby" is running AirlinesAndDestinations.com, an air and destination travel news site which receives 30,000 to 35,000 unique visitors and from 50,000 to 60,000 page views a month on average), I wonder if you might make more practical use of counting unique visitors rather than page views. That way you will get a better handle on how many viewers you have and how many return very regularly (I'm one who does!). Google Analytics (totally free) is great for such analytics and through Feedburner (also free) Google will also allow you to set up automatic e-mail newsletters which will go out to your site members as often as you want it to, informing them of the latest posts on the site.
Please pardon me for suggesting this ... it's just a thought about something that might help you make the site statistics even more relevant for your purposes.
Thank you, Opinion8. Some good ideas. We set up the ChangeDetection links a few years ago to help people keep up to date, but there are other, newer, means as well. Something we will have to think about on the next redevelopment.
DeleteIan,
ReplyDeleteCongratulations - your blog continues to be an invaluable reference point, way ahead of anything Royal Mail provides! Perhaps they should employ you....
Keep up the Good Work!!
Rob
May be wrong, but weren't the 'Tales of Terror' stamps from 1997 supposed to glow in the dark?
ReplyDeleteYes, I think you are right, Robert
DeleteRe "...Something we will have to think about on the next redevelopment." I would like to suggest that an edit facility, for the comment poster, be introduced so that spelling mistakes etc can be corrected instead of having to delete a comment and re-posting it. I can edit on all other sites that I use.
ReplyDeleteSorry Eric, Opinion8 was talking about our website, not this blog. The blog uses Google's Blogspot facility, we have (as far as I know) no control over your ability to edit and I don't recall being able to correct or edit any post I have made on any other blog using Blogspot (like MachinMania).
DeleteCan only suggest you prepare your comment in Word or another text editor and check it before copying it here.
