Post & Go and Self-Service Kiosk News for 2026

This post and its comments will hold all news on Post and Go stamps, machines, and PO Self Service Kiosks (SSKs).

For details of new Post and Go stamps issued by the postal authorities in Guernsey and Jersey I recommend WhiteKnight's Commonwealth Stamp Opinion. All issues from the islands, and Gibraltar and the SOAR stamps from Isle of Man and Ireland will normally be pictured there as announced.

Any late news for PO SSKs will continue to be added on the 2025 blog post. Please continue to make comments there until it is closed for comments or send me news/images by email.

Crown Office Franchising

In June in 2025 Post Office Ltd announced that the remaining Crown Offices would be franchised before the end of the year.  Locally this only meant a change of operator and personnel as Dereham has never had a Self-Service Kiosk, but around the country there were many mixed messages - and outcomes - as to whether existing machines would continue to be used by the new operator, which often operated out of different premises.

Our correspondents have kept us updated with all that news and other news of just where SSKs are still on-site, which of these (if any) are working, and what they are dispensing.

There has been a gradual move to card-only, or shut-down, especially where staffing does not permit the previous 'floor-walker' assistance.  In these cases it's difficult to know if the machines were serviceable or not.

There is no major news yet, but I know Malcolm and Trevor (and others) will be keen to add details from their travels in this new year, so I'll start with just this image as typical of what they will find!  Any specific, especially illustrated, news will be added just as soon as we get it.

8 January

From Trevor's report in the comments

Shrewsbury 7th Jan SSK68 Machin R21YAL & CL19S (missing print in middle of stamp on 2nd Class)

Chester 7th Jan SSK67 Machin R20YAL (2nd on 1st stock)

10 January Another picture from Trevor showing perfectly centred printing on the 2nd class kiosk 68 at Exmouth.

UPDATE 13 February - Trevor's photos from Edinburgh (see comments).

Edinburgh Self-service kiosks - RIP!

Edinburgh's 'collectibles' - which appear to include the new 1st class Large business sheet (row 2)

UPDATE 13 July Morrisons move means 52 Post Office branches closing this summer

See full article here - if any of these contain SSKs, active or not, please let me know and I'll add them here.

UPDATE 24 August.  Here is Malcolm's photo from Leeds Market branch, probably of K67 now that the others have been removed. (see comments)

Leeds Market branch PO reduced to one SSK.

Over to you, readers!

I have compiled an alphabetical list by location of the comments on closures, and those kiosks still working.  This does not repeat the contents of the machines at any given time.  The table is based on reports in 2026 and will be updated with new content as reports are made, but probably not immediately: I'll do batches as I remember (or am asked!).

There may be errors of transcription from the blog comments to this table - those are mine, hopefully not many.

If you wish to check the comments, then the date in the Report date column is usually the date the blog comment is made but occasionally comments are made days or even weeks after the sighting, and that is reflected if mentioned in the comment.

I hope this is useful, if only to show the sorry state of SSKs in modern post office branches.   As I showed on my report from Ireland, although not many people seem to buy the stamps from the An Post machines, they are used by people dropping off parcels.

  1. Birmingham Pinfold St 7th January

All kiosks OOS (but most switched on) with Post & Go Area unlit and cordoned off. There seemed to be an awful of of suitcases and other non PO associated merchandise for sale within the branch. Didn't have time to check TG Jones as had a train connection to make.

Shrewsbury, Wrexham and Chester kiosks all in service today, report to follow.

Kiosk 68 has been removed completely (not 69 as previously recorded) and the machines have been turned by 90 degrees, so they are against the back wall, i.e. in front of you as you enter the PO. Big thanks to the gentleman who switched the remaining two on for me to obtain stamps. Again, the usual tale of woe, similar to other offices, cited as the reason for them being OOS.

  4. The re opening of the original branch at Milton Keynes that was scheduled to take place on the 15th January has again been delayed to an unspecified date with the temporary branch retained.
Not the best of publicity as the branch finder website is today showing it and the temporary branch open.

  5. Replacement branch for Wakefield which closes on the 28th February is scheduled to open on the 13th March.
The checkbox for post & go is ticked but I suspect as previously this is a reference to the current branch and the new one will not have kiosks at this stage.

  6. Birmingham Pinfold Street closed finally yesterday at 1100am according to the poster on the door. New PO in TG Jones has no SSK's and there appears to be no passive provision for them anywhere.

    https://corporate.postoffice.co.uk/en/purpose-strategy/post-office-transformation/january-2026-our-transformation-progress/

We’re delivering a £120 million branch modernisation programme over the next four years to create a network that meets the needs of today’s customers. This investment will go towards upgraded self-service kiosks, parcel drop-off solutions, and digital marketing screens to improve convenience and efficiency.

    1. Nothing official at this stage but am told there will be an announcement on new kiosks made in March.
Told also the first kiosk will be towards the North of the country so that would rule out Selsdon and Goring as first locations.
There was to be a public trial made first before more widespread installation so maybe given that will be at Rhyl.

I can understand that with the reducing number of active SSKs there is not much to write about. If anyone would like to compile a list of those still in place and/or active, I will add it to the main body of the post.

Probably best to send it by email rather than as a comment here.

  25. I suspect we are all waiting for the appearance of the imageHOLDERS kiosks and discovering what sort of Post & Go stamps/labels will be dispensed. The original announcement of the choice of imageHOLDERS was made on 19 December 2024 with the roll-out to post offices expected in Spring 2025. That was later amended to Spring 2026, but there hasn't been an official announcement yet - and Summer 2026 will soon be here!

  49. On consultation website is the relocation of Chiswick post office to Robert Dyas 326 Chiswick High Road with post & go ticked.
It always surprised me that the original office never had SSK as always a busy location proposed July / August 2026.

Massive thanks to the lady at Fareham who re-booted K69 as it froze at the payment stage, and again to the lady at Bognor who came out from behind the counter and switched K68 on and tried to reboot K67 for me.

So from 18 potential kiosks only 7 were in service so just under 39%. The three PO’s that had no kiosks working at all only had one member of staff on duty whereas the others all had two. Maybe that tells its own tale!

  56. That Trevor is becoming all too familiar tale.
Can add one report myself Worcester today all kiosks turned off permanently according to staff.

  59. Not many people come to Norfolk, and I don't go to Norwich much, not for shopping anyway.

I have a report that there are 4 machines in TG Jones, I don't know how many are not in service.

Last month they had new stock of 2019 2nd class, and the 1st class are probably 2019 as well.

Not very precise but the best I can do.

Next nearest machines are Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft.

  60. On consultation website today is Stirling where the present TJ Jones is closing on the 11th July (seems a popular date this for many closures)
The present branch does not have NCR but the replacement has post & go ticked relocation is to Saras Stationary, 15 Dumbarton Road, Stirling on the 18th August.
Of course this may not be NCR but be a branch identified for new kiosks once the long delayed rollout commences.

    1. I'm staying in Stirling next month so I'll have a mooch about and make some enquiries if anyone about. Given the location , it may have been chosen for a low key launch away from hordes of collectors, only the dedicated would go that far!

      Delete
    2. Wouldn't it be good if someone could get something from the new machines - or knew someone who could? !

Perhaps you need to talk to Sara get her number! (Oh, I see it's currently an empty unit.)

Branch code is 206868 - I presume that's the existing one.

  61. Ian yes, the codes given on the website are the present locations.
Previously I cannot recall names now, but Wincor was Bristol and NCR Harpenden to be near locations where they lived.
I was told that I would not be happy where the first location was going to be but as that was many many months ago, I cannot see that now applies with the fast-changing network locations
It was my understanding that had the Crown estate remained Milton Keynes was the location but that's not too far from me my other thought it would have been the newly opened branch at Portishead for logistical reasons.

  62. I note from today news that Modella Capital have been given the green light to close up to 150 stores by the High Court. Wonder how many will be PO's with SSK's?

  71. News from PW.

Chesterfield Post Office(ex WHS): finally the 2 P +G machines have been removed(according to the Manageress, a few weeks ago). She also shared my anxiety about those machines not working for around 18 months but the Post Office ignored her concerns.

The 2 machines at Charles St. Sheffield were removed at least 6 months ago, they too were never in use for around 16 months previous to that. In their place a few weeks ago, a Royal Mail/DPD Parcel locker had been installed but I have never seen it being used by the public, they prefer to wait in a queue and be served at the counter because the Staff are not present at the Locker to deal with the customers!

So, these 'gimmicks' will become the 'white elephants', like the solar-powered postboxes that I have never seen anyone use. .
